Configuring dashboards to display descriptive scales

If you're an IB school or prefer to show grades as letters or words rather than as a percentage, then you'll need to follow these steps.

The presentation scales feature is designed to allow schools to show grades in the scale that is in use in the school, rather than Intellischool's default percentage presentation of assessment data. You can create as many scales as you'd like, so long as the scale is in use in your data source (i.e. your LMS).

Inside your Intellischool Settings area, select Presentation grade scales under Data management, and click 'Add a conversion' to get started.

⚠️ Be sure to name your scale as something easily recognisable to your school's staff, as this will appear in all legends across charts that display achievement data.

Once you’ve named the scale, you’ll need to find the scales you’d like to map to our presentation in your LMS. Clicking ‘Select source scale’ opens up a window that shows you all of the scales in use across your data sources, i.e. your LMS and your SIS.

⚠️ The scale must have numeric ranges for each key in the scale for it to appear on this list, e.g. ‘A’ = 90 - 95%

In the example above, you'll see that there is a scale using "A+, A..., Not Assessed, Ungraded" with the number 23 next to it.

  • Here, you'll see the first few and last two keys in the scale displayed - not the whole scale. Clicking the plus button on the right-hand side will expand to show you every key in the scale and its corresponding numeric range.
  • Each scale below is a permutation of the original scale but the keys and numeric ranges are the same.
  • You can select every associated scale or a sub-selection.

Once selected, your changes will be autosaved, and you can close the window.

Now in our system, you’ll see the ranges for the scale have auto-populated into the scale builder, but you may need to name each key in the scale - i.e. 0 - 25 in the example below will be named ‘Needs additional support’. Be sure to click 'Save changes' in the bottom right-hand corner when you're done.

Once you've completed the above steps, reach out to our Support team to request a full resync of your data. This generally takes a few hours or less, and once complete, you'll see your grade scale changes applied across applicable areas of your Intellischool Analytics.
