Configuring Office 365 for Pulse email tracking

Intellischool Analytics tracks engagement with Pulse alerts, including when emails are opened. By following the steps in this document, you can ensure activity for Pulse alerts sent to internal recipients is always tracked.

If you're using Office 365, you can configure global rules that ensure that Pulse alert activity is tracked. This enables Pulse administrators to understand engagement with configured alerts - including who has opened the alert e-mails and how often, and more importantly, who is not opening the emails.

We'll be configuring a Mail Flow Rule with conditions that identify Pulse alert emails, and actions that will specify the way in which Pulse emails should be treated by Exchange Online, Microsoft Outlook and other email clients.

1. In the Exchange Admin Centre, create a new Mail Flow Rule. Give it a name of "Intellischool Pulse alerts" or something that lets you identify the rule quickly in future.
2. Click the More options link at the bottom of the prompt to ensure all the required menu options are available.
3. Add the following Conditions:
   1. The sender >> domain is >> "intellischool.co"
   2. A message header >> includes any of these words >> Header name: "Authentication-Results" >> Header value: "dmarc=pass" or "dmarc=bestguesspass"
   3. The subject or body >> subject includes any of these words >> "Pulse alert"
4. Add the following Actions:
   1. Set the spam confidence level (SCL) to >> Bypass spam filtering
   2. Modify the message properties >> Set a message header "X-ETR" to the value "Bypass spam filtering for Intellischool"
5. Click Save to add the Mail Flow Rule.
