Cohort Indicators

A walk-through of what's on this dashboard and how to use the information presented

In Term 2 of 2025, we're releasing major changes to the Cohort Indicators page. The changes we're making are based on the comprehensive feedback we've received from our schools. In this article, we'll start with the basics of how this dashboard works, and then we'll detail the changes we've made.

Filters

Once you've selected your cohort, you can select which semesters and Learning Areas/test types you'd like to see. By default, we'll load all end-of-semester and standardised tests that we find for the cohort in the semesters selected.

The presentation of performance data

In previous iterations of the Cohort Indicators page, we've calculated an average of each student's performance for their classes and then averaged this to a single 'cohort' score. Admittedly, not many uses for such a result.

We now break performance up to show proportion by performance bands. Simply put, how many students got an "A" for Biology, or a "7.5" for Measurement and Geometry in the Victorian Curriculum result, or band 135 - 144 for PAT Maths Adaptive? For our IB MYP schools, we also show results against each Criterion for each subject. When looked at in total, it is simple to see where strengths and challenges lie and where there may be discordances across different data sets.

For the example below, I've filtered for ACER tests and English results. Performance at this demo school is reported as percentage, so the "bands" are deciles, but if you're reporting A - E, 1 - 7 or any other descriptive range, performance will be reported in that way.

Drilling into performance

The table below the chart shows each student in the cohort you've selected and their performance in each of the Learning Areas/Test Types you've selected. If you click on a student's name, the chart filters to show the bands in which they are performing for every Learning Area/Test Type in view.

Conversely, you can select any band to filter the table, showing you which students are performing in the selected band.

Historical performance

In the semester picker, you can select previous semesters. These subject results will be under their parent Learning Area and are labeled with the semester and year they are from. The intention here is to be able to see each semester's performance side by side to see how it has changed.

As always, we're eager for your feedback on the current release, so please feel free to get in touch with Help@intellischool.co to let us know what you think... and keep an eye out for further updates on this dashboard.

Quick insights

The Quick insights panel aims to provide snapshots of useful information, drawing from all of the data presented on this dashboard. The insights will change depending on which semesters and learning domain/test components you have selected.

Screenshot 2025-05-26 at 1.17.47 pmIf you're looking at a year level, house or campus cohort, this overall attendance percentage represents the average attendance for students across all of their subjects this semester.

When looking at a class, this is the attendance for just that class. The average days absence is across all students in view.

Screenshot 2025-05-26 at 1.18.00 pmThe Watch List finds students in the cohort who meet the conditions stipulated. "Below cohort average," will take the average result for the classes they've taken to see if they're operating below average.

Clicking 'Show me' will filter the table below to show you who these students are.

- positive growth and results above the median result (high achieving group)

- regression but with strong results

- positive growth, but results below the median

- regression and results below the median (your intervention group)

Clicking 'View All' will expand the card for the exhaustive list.

In Settings, what can be viewed and by whom, can be controlled. Simply head to Permissions and select the behavioural categories you wish to restrict access to by permission set.
